The strength and of an artist book, as beautiful as the binding may be, resides between the covers in the content of the volume.
How the narrative is presented, through image, page composition and structure will direct the reader through the book and engage them in the story. Zines are traditionally quickly, quirky, simply made publications in small runs, designed to share stories, poems, drawings, anything in fact.
Learn a variety of simple zine and artist book structures and binding techniques and create your own series of books with a focus on content and narrative using collage, stamps, sewing, drawing, as well as some simple hand and digital printing techniques provided. Both established artists and beginners will enjoy the storytelling nature of creating artists books and zines.
Joanna’s own collection of small but sophisticated artists’ books and zines (by herself and others) will be on display to inspire and delight you as to what might be possible.
