This class explores hand stitching and creating “fragments of memory”.
Capture the memories of your travels or treasures by creating a beautiful travellers blanket – a visual “aide de memoire”. Be inspired by the Silk Road and great travelers like Marco Polo who travelled and found treasure.
If you travelled that road and wanted to keep memories of the fabrics and silks and patterns and stitches you encountered, what better way than to sew fragments onto a blanket. Your quilt will be built from layers of shibori dyed muslin and flannel then “textured” with running stitch, embroidery, simple stitch and fabric fragments.
This piece is about the rhythm of the hand stitching and intriguing decorative effects and will suit quilters and textile artists. Suitable for the beginner to advanced quilters.
