Discover and practice the art of Japanese surface embellishment. Traditionally, Sashiko is running stitch design worked on cotton indigo dyed cloth with white thread.
Learn the Art of “Interacting with fabric” through stitch and pattern to create your own Sashiko designs with a contemporary twist. We start with a beginner project which is an Origami folded drawstring bag. The design is suited to beginners and is an opportunity to practice 4 commonly used Sashiko stitch designs that when folded are then showcased in the finished product.
The follow on project is designed for students to conduct self guided work. I will provide the guidance for students to take control of the direction for the next project, where you take it is totally up to you, pillows, table runners, wash cloths, bags, clothing, its endless!
This class is suitable for beginners and students with medium level quilting knowledge, or for those who just want to learn about Sashiko.
