Dolly Duo

As participants at Wrapt in Rocky, 2008 and 2010, we have already signed up for 2012.  Nanette organises an enjoyable and professional forum in a great venue, with great food, great company and great tutors. What more could you ask for, sign up and join the crowd for a fun and rewarding learning experience.

I attended Wrapt in Rocky back in 2008, this was the first ever fibre arts forum that I had attended.  And it was fabulous!

I attended Wrapt again in 2010. The experience of being able to immerse oneself for 5 days with one tutor is heaven, the new processes and techniques learnt, as well as the time to play is the cake for me!  Having the opportunity to connect with new and old friends whilst enjoying yummy food that someone else has prepared is the icing on that cake!

I’m looking forward to wrapping myself in art at Wrapt in Rocky again, in 2012 !!”

I have been to each of the Wrapt in Rocky since they began.

Completely recommend to anyone one that just wants to switch off from the rest of the world, and have a wonderful week, with excellent tutors, great company, lots of fun and something that everybody should experience….

Nanette Balchin is an enthusiastic artist and event coordinator.  Wrapt in Rocky provides the opportunity for remote artists to attend an event where tutors from Australia and overseas are there to accept students in small classes. The tuition received accelerates out self development in own chosen form of textile art.  All tutors provide a power point presentation of their own work and these lectures are not to be missed as even more information and skill processes are shown.

Live in and live out students are both accepted. Traders are always available selling products not available locally and the small things we may have forgotten for class. There is also the chance to sell our own work during the bazaar to help to offset the costs.  Small exhibitions are on display at the school during the event.  This event provides us with fun, inspiration, and many new friends. I always attend this event as it is the best. Nannette’s enthusiasm ensures this success.

“Wrapt in Rocky’ was a fabulous experience for me, not least because it has thrown into strong contrast its advantages compared to other winter workshops. For starters the weather has been exemplary both times I have attended Wrapt in Rocky…sunny warm days where t-shirts sufficed and cool nights that allowed a good night’s sleep.   And the other non-course bonus was the food.  Meals offered not only choice but absolutely delicious food.  And the morning and afternoon teas were enough to make you put on kilos.  Mind you, the workshops were so engrossing and the conversation with other participants so engaging that eating morning and afternoon teas sometimes became an afterthought.

As for the workshops, they were well planned and had every facility you could need. I did a Keith Lo Bue (not on offer in 2012) workshop in both 2008 and 2010 and in the second year we were in the new science lab with great benches, electrical outlets, water and sinks and everything you might need for working with jewellery/cold connection techniques.

And the participants and tutors I met from other workshops all had interesting things to say and show.  I cannot recommend Wrapt in Rocky too highly.  While I know that other workshops might offer similar tutors, it can be the extras that make the workshop really zing.  And I think Wrapt in Rocky has that….thanks to its coordinator Nanette Balchin and the facilities provided by Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.”
